New Delhi. Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor is surprised by Suryakumar Yadav’s batting and feels that the new No. 1 T20 batsman could have an even better future. Suryakumar on Wednesday rose to the top of the batting rankings after only 37 T20 Internationals. The right-handed batsman averaged 40.65 at an unbelievable strike rate of 177 to become the fastest to the No. 1 ranking while batting at number four for India in 21 T20Is.
Suryakumar scored his only T20 century, batting at number four, and rose to the top of the rankings in his normal position with an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 184.86. But Taylor believes that Suryakumar could have an even greater impact if he moves up India’s batting order.

Taylor was quoted as saying by the ICC, ‘Number four-five is the most difficult place to bat in T20. When you are batting behind some great batsmen like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it is not easy to be at No. 1 and for him to perform well. He said, “I am sure with time he will start batting down the order or start batting where he wants, but for someone batting at four, it is a wonderful effort.

Taylor further said, ‘I don’t know how he bats this. He understands the situation really well, runs well between the wickets, but he has a lot of confidence. Once he gives himself time, he starts batting well because it seems he can hit the ball anywhere at the moment.
The 38-year-old was in India for his recent white-ball home series against Australia and South Africa, and is particularly impressed with Suryakumar’s batting in the match.
