ICC Team of the year: India’s daughters waved the flag, these players got place in ICC’s best T20 team
Richa was selected as the wicket-keeper batsman in the team for scoring 259 runs in 18 matches. Renuka took 22 T20 International wickets at an economy rate of 6.50 and an average of 23.95. He was also named as the ICC Emerging Player of the Year.
Virat, Surya and Pandya in the men’s team
Virat Kohli, returning to form in 2022, had a stellar performance in the Asia Cup where he was the second most successful batsman with 276 runs in five matches. He ended a nearly three-year drought of an international century with a century against Afghanistan. In the team’s first match in the T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Melbourne, he scored an unbeaten 82 which is one of the best innings in the history of T20 Internationals.
Kohli scored three more half-centuries in the tournament and was the most successful batsman of the tournament with 296 runs. Suryakumar became only the second batsman to score more than 1000 runs in T20 Internationals in a calendar year. He scored 1164 runs at a strike rate of 187.43 with two centuries and nine fifties.
In the World Cup, he scored 239 runs at a strike rate of 189.68 and ended the year as the number one T20 International batsman. Last year was the best for Hardik in terms of statistics. Apart from scoring 607 runs, he took 20 wickets. England’s World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler has been chosen to lead the 11-man squad. Runner-up Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Haris Rauf have also found a place in the team.
