India got first wicket from DRS
The Indian team got its first breakthrough in the second over of the day. Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj lbw Usman Khawaja on his first ball. He was able to score only one run. After this, David Warner also got bowled in the third over after scoring just one run. After two wickets fell for two runs, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith took over the innings. Australia didn’t let any setback till lunch.
Labushen (49) was moving towards Fifty but just after the lunch break, he went ahead of the crease in an attempt to play Jadeja’s fast-spinning ball and was stumped by Shrikar Bharat. He hit eight fours while facing 123 balls. Jadeja lbw Matt Renshaw (0) on the very next ball. Steve Smith (37) also could not last long and was bowled by Jadeja.

Carey and Handscomb adopted an aggressive approach against the Indian bowlers, especially wicket-keeper batsman Carey. Carey hit some good boundaries with a reverse sweep but in an attempt to repeat the same shot off Ashwin, the ball was played on the wickets. Ashwin had Australia captain Pat Cummins (6) caught by Kohli in the slips, while Jadeja gave Australia the eighth blow by lbw to debutant Todd Murphy (0). After the tea break, Jadeja dismissed Handcomb (31) to complete his 5 wickets. Bowling Boland, Ashwin wrapped up Australia’s innings for 177 runs.
Rohit Sharma studded Fifty
Skipper Rohit Sharma got off to a brisk start for India. He hit Pat Cummins for three fours in the very first over. Rohit then scored quick runs from one end. At the same time, KL Rahul was seen saving wickets. Rohit completed his fifty off 65 balls by hitting a four off Nathan Lyon in the 22nd over. This is Rohit’s 15th Fifty in Test. He has scored 50+ for the first time as Test captain.
After Rohit’s fifty, KL Rahul fell victim to Todd Murphy in the very next over. This is Murphy’s debut test. The Indian vice-captain scored 20 runs off 71 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin landed at number three as the overnight man. India’s score till stumps was 77 runs for one wicket. Rohit is unbeaten after scoring 56 runs. Ashwin has not opened an account yet.
