Hardik Pandya said – New Zealand team always presents a challenge
‘Young players have a chance to show their potential’
New Delhi. Team India is now in New Zealand after being eliminated from the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022. A series of three T20s will be played between the two teams from 18 November. Regular captain Rohit Sharma and senior team players Virat Kohli and KL Rahul have not come on this tour. In Rohit’s absence, Pandya will lead the team in the T20 series. This series will be challenging for Team India adorned with young players. Meanwhile, skipper Pandya said that the team is disappointed after losing in the semi-finals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup. But, the team will have to move forward forgetting this defeat and start working on the roadmap for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2024 from now itself.
Hardik Pandya said, ‘There is disappointment with the defeat in the T20 World Cup. But, we are professional players. We have to take this defeat as well and move forward in the same way as we take success. We have to rectify our mistakes and where is the team weak? He has to fix it. He said that there will be a roadmap for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2024. However, for the time being, our entire focus is on the New Zealand series. We will try to do better here.
Good opportunity for youngsters to show potential: Pandya
On the question related to the absence of senior players, Pandya said, ‘It is that the senior players are not together this time. But, we have a lot of talent. The players who have come on this tour. He has been playing for India for the last one or two years. He has got enough time to understand international cricket and prove himself. Very excited about the young players. There will be new enthusiasm and energy in the team.
‘New Zealand team always challenges’
Regarding New Zealand, he said that the Kiwi team has always been challenging in the T20 format. Recently played the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. New Zealand as a team has always challenged you. This time also we are expecting the same. In such a situation, we have hope from the young players that they will face this challenge and live up to the expectations of the team.
Between 18 and 30 November, three T20 and as many ODI series will be played between India and New Zealand. After this, the New Zealand team will visit India for the White Ball Series in January next year.
