Ind vs Nz Pitch Controversy: Suryakumar Yadav’s thinking is not like that of Captain Hardik, pitch curator’s job could have been saved!

Ahmedabad: Indian T20 team vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav has played down the pitch controversy at Ekana Stadium, saying pitch doesn’t matter much and he is ready to play on any kind of surface. Indian captain Hardik Pandya on Sunday described the Lucknow pitch as surprising after the target of 100 runs was achieved in the last over in the second T20 against New Zealand (IND vs NZ). The curator was blamed for the unusual behavior of the pitch and was sacked.

Suryakumar said on the eve of the third and final T20 match of the series, ‘We (Hardik and I) talked about it later, and decided that whatever pitch we get in future, we will not complain. That’s totally fine. It doesn’t matter on which soil (pitch) you play. These things are not in your control. We did what was in our control, we had to adapt and move forward with the circumstances. But it was an exciting match.

Suryakumar said, ‘Be it any match, ODI or T20 low-scoring or high-scoring, if the match is competitive, then I do not think the wicket matters. When you go to the ground, you have a challenge, you accept it and move forward.

Suryakumar, who has been in fine form of late, attributed his success to his experience in domestic cricket. The batsman, who played domestic matches for Mumbai, said, ‘I have played a lot of domestic cricket before making my debut in international cricket, which has helped me a lot. You have to work hard on yourself and I took that hard work forward by playing on different challenging pitches. I have learned a lot by watching and talking to so many experienced players in the team.

Suryakumar is likely to make his Test debut in the much-awaited series against Australia starting on February 9 in Nagpur. When asked about this, he said, ‘Obviously, everyone wants to play Test cricket. When you start your cricket at the domestic level, you play only with the red ball and I have played for Mumbai.
