New Delhi. Team India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has given a surprising statement after helping India to a 4-wicket win against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup match. Ashwin had presented a splendid specimen of presence of mind in the last over of the match. Ashwin said that he thanked God for the wide ball, as it leveled the score.
Talking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said that after the wide ball he told himself that ‘no one will throw stones at my house’. Ashwin said, “First ball, he bowled it in the leg side. I felt relieved. I said to myself ‘Thank God, it was wide. I don’t see any point in playing it. I just watched the ball go to the wicketkeeper and let it go. I was relieved that we got a run too and the equation came down to ball one. Then I told myself that thankfully no one will throw stones at my house.

Ashwin came to the crease when India needed two runs in two balls. He saw the ball going from the leg side and released it. On this the umpire gave the signal of wide. Ashwin then took a single off Mohammad Nawaz. India won the match by 4 wickets and the Indian dugout erupted with joy.
Meanwhile, India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey praised Ashwin for his presence of mind. When asked what was the conversation with the management before sending Ashwin? To this Mhambrey said, “It’s the other way around.”
He said, “When it comes to Ashwin, he is the one who tells us that this is what I am going to do. He is as he is. He really showed his composure and presence of mind to drop that ball. If you look at it, at that time someone else will swing his bat, but that’s Ashwin.”
