IND vs SA: Dinesh Karthik’s ruckus preparations, took a new break in wicketkeeping, Pant also showed his strength

Perth: This could be the last ICC tournament for Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, while the 37-year-old became part of the team for the first time in 2007 for the global tournament. At the same time, 25-year-old Rishabh Pant has yet to play top level cricket for many years. Pant batted from start to finish during practice in the nets but his chances of being included in the last-11 are slim. Both the wicket-keeper batsmen are at different stages of their lives.

Karthik did some special ‘blint drills’ so that people don’t criticize his wicketkeeping in what could be his last big tournament. At the same time, Pant’s batting session showed the passion of a young man and Rahul Dravid spent most of his time watching his batting. Occasionally he hit hard shots at Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj. Sometimes he missed but he kept practicing.

At the center of India’s net practice was Karthik’s unique wicket-keeping drills, which were done under the supervision of fielding coach T Dileep. ‘Blint drill’ is such an exercise which is done to increase the alertness of the wicketkeeper. After this, Karthik also practiced taking some catches. Rather coach Rahul Dravid asked the net bowlers (spinners) to bowl fast on the stumps when Karthik was keeping wickets.

A net bowler Khilesh said, “We got instructions from the Indian coaches to bowl fast and keep it close to the stumps, don’t turn too much when Karthik is keeping wickets. We are not used to bowling so fast in grade cricket but it was fun.

Karthik kept on doing his drill while Pant was doing batting practice in the second net. Chief selector Chetan Sharma was also present during this optional training session and was watching from afar.
