Perth. South Africa broke their winning streak by defeating India by five wickets with two balls to spare in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday. Except Suryakumar Yadav, none of the Indian batsmen could face the South African bowlers on the fast pitch of Perth. Suryakumar Yadav played a struggling innings of 68 runs off 40 balls. The top order of Indian batting was shattered on the fast pitch. Indian team scored 133 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, South Africa’s team achieved the target by scoring 137 for 5 wickets in 19.4 overs. David Miller played a brilliant innings of 59 runs in 46 balls for South Africa. He hit 4 fours and 3 skyscraper sixes. This is the first defeat of the Indian team in the last three matches.
After the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said, ‘Looking at the surrounding weather, we also expected that there is something in this pitch. We also knew that the fast bowlers would get help on this pitch. This is the reason why the target of 130 runs was not easy. We thought we would fight till the end but South Africa played a great game at the end of the match. This pitch was such that the fast bowler could get a wicket at any time. Miller and Markram’s match-winning partnership took the match away from us.
He further said, ‘Our fielding was bad. We fielded well in the last two matches. We missed many opportunities. We have a lot to learn from this match. We have to keep up the great performance. We have played in such conditions before, so no excuse can be made about the conditions.
