Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that the Indian team’s position in the Oval Test is very strong. Inzamam believes that hosts England do not have the batting ability to chase the target of 291 runs on the fifth day on a pitch which is going to be very helpful for the spinners. He believes that it will not be easy for any new batsman to make it on the pitch of the fifth day.
Chasing 368 runs, the openers of the England team got off to a positive start. By the end of the fourth day’s play on Sunday, England had scored 77 runs for no loss. Indian pacers got no swing. At the same time, the team’s lone spinner Ravindra Jadeja also could not leave much impact and could not take any advantage of the left-handed batsmen’s rough outside the off-stump.
However, Inzamam believes that the pair of Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed somehow managed to play Jadeja. He says that only one wicket is needed to break the innings of England.
Inzamam said on his YouTube channel, ‘The match has reached a very exciting point. Indian team cannot lose this match under any circumstances. So if anyone is thinking that England have scored 70-80 runs in the opening, then in my view it is just a matter of one wicket. The way the ball is spinning and the way Ravindra Jadeja is bowling I think any new batsman will have a lot of trouble playing on this wicket. I don’t think English batting can do that.
He further said, ‘As the match progresses in the morning. And as more Indian bowlers bowl on that pitch, you will see that the wicket will start breaking and rough patches will start appearing. The openers have just played the new ball and are set up and have played the spinner just somehow.
India cannot lose this match, it is just a matter of one wicket, then England’s innings will collapse: Inzamam-ul-Haq
