Karachi. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has hit out at the Indian medical team and team management for the return of Jasprit Bumrah in the recently concluded T20 tournament against Australia soon after recovering from injury. The pacer suffered a back fracture and complained of pain during a practice session at the Greenfield Stadium ahead of the first T20I against South Africa.
After the medical team’s assessment, it was reported that the 28-year-old bowler would have to wait for four to six months to return to the field, which is a major setback for the Indian team. After Ravindra Jadeja is already out of the team due to injury, Bumrah’s absence has also created a major flaw in the bowling attack. Speaking on the same issue, Kaneria believes that Bumrah could have been rested till the ICC T20 World Cup.
Danish Kaneria raised questions on the role of the medical team
Kaneria said that Bumrah is not Harshal Patel who may take time to find his rhythm and added that he could have come straight back for the T20 World Cup. He spoke about how Bumrah is playing with injuries in the IPL, but lauded the BCCI for managing the pacer’s workload properly. However, he questioned the role of the medical team and asked whether the management had taken a decision on Bumrah’s return a little too early.
Gavaskar told, fear of what haunts Pakistan captain Babar Azam while batting
Kaneria said on his YouTube channel, ‘It would have been better if he made a straight return in the T20 World Cup 2022. He could play in the practice matches to get back in the rhythm. He is not like Harshal Patel or any other bowler, who will need a lot of time to get the momentum.
‘Virat Kohli is also questioned…’: Bowler’s stern response to criticism
Bumrah is the second senior Indian player after Ravindra Jadeja to miss the World Cup. Jadeja is recovering from knee surgery. The Indian team is not looking very good at the moment and in such a situation, with Bumrah’s injury, the problems of captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid will increase.
A BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Bumrah and Jadeja’s exit is a big blow for India. We didn’t think this would happen. He was rested in the Asia Cup to manage the workload. Right now the question remains whether he was fully fit to play in the Australian series or not.
