LLC 2022: Shane Watson’s stormy innings, Bhilwara Kings in the final of Legends League cricket

Jodhpur: Bhilwara Kings defeated Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets in the Eliminator match to make it to the final of the Legends League. They will face India Capitals in the title match to be held in Jaipur on 5 October. Capitals had defeated Bhilwara only in the qualifier match. Now Irfan Pathan’s team has a chance to equalize that loss to Capitals as well as win the title at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Batting first, Gujarat Giants scored 194 for 9 with the help of excellent innings from Tillakaratne Dilshan, Yashpal Singh, Kevin O’Brien and Ajantha Mendis. None of the team’s batsmen could score a half-century. Gujarat had lost two wickets for 21 runs at one point but after this Dilshan (37 runs, 26 balls) shared a 45-run partnership with Yashpal (43 runs, 35 balls). After Yashpal’s dismissal, Kevin O’Brien (45) took the responsibility of scoring the runs and strengthened Gujarat by taking the score beyond 150. He hit two fours and 4 sixes in a stormy innings of 24 balls.

In the end, Ajanta Mendis scored 24 runs in 10 balls to take the team to 194 for 9 wickets. From Bhilwara Kings S. Sreesanth took two wickets while Tim Bresnan, Monty Panesar, Sudeep Tyagi, Rahul Sharma and Fidel Edwards got one each. Two players from Gujarat – Chris Gayle and R. Emrit was run out.

In reply, Bhilwara Kings made a great start. The pair of Porterfield and Morne van Wyk (31) put on 91 runs in 54 balls for the first wicket. Vick, who hit four fours and a six in 18 balls, was finally dismissed by KP Appanna. The team needed 95 runs from 60 balls and Shane Watson was present in addition to Porterfield on the wicket.

Green Swan gave a big relief to Gujarat by dismissing Porterfield for a total of 105 runs. Porterfield scored 60 runs in 43 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. After this Shane Watson got the support of Yusuf Pathan (21) and Irfan Pathan (22). In the end, the team won the match by 6 wickets with 9 balls to spare. Watson scored 48 not out off 24 balls with the help of 2 fours and 5 sixes.
