Kicked out of the Indian team, Test batsman Murali Vijay on Friday made a comeback to competitive cricket after nearly two years. Vijay went to Tirunelveli to play for Ruby Trichy Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). However, he could only score eight runs in 13 balls and was run out. He last played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League match in Dubai in September 2020.
Vijay, a veteran of 61 Tests for India, did not play for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, nor did he play in the TNPL last year. He also did not participate in the local TNCA league. He last played for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy in December 2019.
Vijay’s last Test for India was in 2018 against Australia in Perth. Before TNPL, Vijay had said, ‘I want to play for as long as possible. I took a personal break. He said, ‘I wanted to take care of my family. I am enjoying my cricket right now and I feel completely fit.
