Rahul told the secret – being prepared for special responsibility in ODI

New Delhi. Indian vice-captain Lokesh Rahul on Sunday revealed that the Indian team management has asked him to be ‘ready to keep wicket and bat in the middle order’ in the ODI format. Lokesh Rahul has taken over the responsibility behind the wicket in some matches in 2021. In the opening ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh, he scored 73 runs batting in the middle order and then took the role of wicketkeeper.

After resting Rishabh Pant from the ODI series on the advice of the medical team, it was decided to keep wicket with Lokesh Rahul. However, he dropped the catch of Mehdi Hasan Miraj, due to which the Indian team had to face defeat by one wicket. When Lokesh Rahul was asked about Pant’s absence, he said in a slightly disappointed sense, “We haven’t played many ODIs in the last eight-nine months, but if you look at 2020-21, I have kept wicket-keeping.” And I have batted at number four and five. The team has asked me to play this role. I am ready for this role in white ball cricket.

He, however, did not say whether Pant was out of the team due to injury or was rested. Rahul said, “To be honest about Pant, I came to know only today that he is going to be released. Our medical team can better answer the questions related to its cause.
