Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson, who was kept out of the T20 World Cup squad, was also not included in the T20 team against South Africa by the selectors. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday made sure that this player will be part of the team in the ODI series.
Talking to the media, Ganguly said, he (Sanju Samson) is playing very well. He is making his presence felt and has played for India. He missed out on a place in the T20 World Cup squad. I am sure he will be part of the team’s plan. I think he has also been in ODIs against South Africa. He will be in the team. He has done quite well for his franchise team (Rajasthan Royals) in IPL. He is the captain of the team and his own performance has also been very good.
Ganguly said Trivandrum, I know maybe he is from Trivandrum. You have got to see very good players from Trivandrum. Rohan Kunnumal scored three centuries in the last Ranji Trophy season. Many talented players are also coming from this part of the country. Basel Thampi also comes from here, so there is a lot of talent in Kerala. Now it is no longer just a football player state.
After the three-match T20 series between India and South Africa, an ODI series of equal number of matches will be played. There is news of the selection of the ODI team this week.
