New Delhi. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Sunday withdrew from the race for the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, leaving his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly at the top of the annual general meeting on October 31. The way was cleared for being elected unopposed to the post.

Ganguly did not file nomination papers for the post of President on the last day of nomination. He told reporters at Eden Gardens, ‘I had said that I will present my claim only when elections are held. Elections are not being held and hence everyone will be elected unopposed.

Ganguly had announced a week ago that he would contest to return as the CAB chief after he was not elected the president of the BCCI.

Ganguly said, ‘If I had contested elections, then two or more people would not get any post, so I withdrew. I would have been elected unopposed but I felt it was not right. They (cab office-bearers) will work for the next three years and we will see after that.
