Melbourne. In the thrilling final of the T20 World Cup 2022, England captured the title for the second time by defeating Pakistan by five wickets on Sunday thanks to the superb bowling of Sam Karen and the half-century of Ben Stokes (52 not out). England had earlier won the first T20 World Cup title in 2010 in the West Indies. At that time the England team was led by Paul Collingwood. Pakistan’s team’s batting was not visible in color and could only score 137 runs for eight wickets. Pakistan also counter-attacked with aggressive bowling and brought the England team under pressure, but the match changed after Shaheen Shah Afridi went out of the field due to injury. Shaheen took one wicket for 13 runs in 2.1 overs. Then Stokes’s innings of 49 balls (five fours, one six) gave England victory by scoring 138 runs for five wickets in 19 overs. Stokes also played a key role in making England the World Cup champions in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
The slow batting of Pakistan team captain Babar Azam himself is no less responsible for the defeat. Azam scored only 32 runs in 28 balls. Even Rizwan could not support him today. Rizwan’s ‘betrayal’ cost the Pakistan team heavily. Rizwan got out after scoring 15 runs in 14 balls. Mohammad Haris (eight runs in 12 balls) was seen battling in front of Adil Rashid. Later Adil made him his victim. Babar Azam said after the match,
Babar Azam said, ‘We lost in the first two matches of the tournament but the way the team performed in the last four games was unbelievable. Because of this performance, we have reached here. We fell behind by 20 runs. The manner in which he fought till the end was unbelievable. Unfortunately Shaheen’s injury cost us dearly and the result of the match changed. Although it is a part of the game.
