T20 World cup: Sunil Gavaskar is calling Babar Azam a ‘distinction’, can become trouble for Indian bowlers

Brisbane: Players from both the teams were seen sharing tricks ahead of the much-awaited match between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup. There was a long conversation between Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami and Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi. At the same time, Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary batsman of his time, taught batting tricks to Pakistan captain Babar Azam. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released a video on Twitter in which Gavaskar is seen discussing batting.

In this video, Gavaskar is shown teaching tricks to Pakistan’s run machine and captain Babar Azam. Babar had met the Indian legend during a private party in which Gavaskar presented the Pakistani player a cap bearing his signature. Gavaskar also wished Babar on his birthday.

Gavaskar told Babar, ‘If the shot selection is good then there is no problem. Select the shot according to the situation, no problem. Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammad Yousuf, members of the Pakistani coaching staff were also present on the occasion.

Apart from this, in another PCB video, Shaheen is shown praising Shami’s ability to bowl with the seam. Shaheen said, ‘I have been following you ever since I started bowling. Your wrist position and seam do not respond. In response, Shami said, ‘If the release point (time to release the ball) is good, then the seam will also be fine.’

Shami took the ball in the 20th over in the warm-up match against Australia and took three wickets to give India a six-run victory. In another warm-up match, Pakistan lost to England by six wickets. Shami was not included in the original team of India but was later included in the team due to the injury of Jasprit Bumrah.

Both Shami and Afridi practiced together in the nets. India will start their campaign in the T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Melbourne on 23 October. The other two teams in this group of Super-12 are South Africa and Bangladesh.
