New Delhi. UAE’s 22-year-old leg spin bowler Karthik Meiyapan took the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup-2022. He did this feat in a Group A match against Sri Lanka. Karthik achieved this feat in the 15th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. This is the fifth hat-trick in the history of T20 World Cup. The first hat-trick in the T20 World Cup was taken by former Australia pacer Brett Lee in 2007.

Karthik got Bhanuka Rajapaksa out caught by Kashif Dawood on the fourth ball of the 15th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Meiyapan’s ball was outside the off-stump. Rajapaksa was caught in deep cover in the process of playing a big shot on this. Meiyapan made Charith Asalanka his victim on the very next ball. This ball of Karthik was a googly. It had extra bounce. In the process of playing a shot on this ball, Aslanka got eaten and the ball took the edge of his bat and got stuck in the gloves of the wicketkeeper.

On the next ball, Meiyapan had a chance to complete the hat-trick and he did not let it go to waste. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka was on strike. This ball of Meiyapan was also googly, which the Sri Lankan captain could not read and got clean bowled. He could not even open the account.

Karthik Meiyapan has a deep connection with India. He was born in Chennai. He took all his three wickets in a single over. Karthik gave 19 runs in his 4 overs and at one time broke the back of the Sri Lankan team’s batting, which seemed to be moving towards a big score.
