New Delhi. Tamil Nadu and Kerala (Tamil Nadu vs Kerala) made it to the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day cricket tournament after their match was washed out here on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu won the toss and invited Kerala to bat first, which scored 287 for eight in 50 overs thanks to Vatsal Goving’s 126-ball 95 with six fours. Vishnu Vinod (45), Abdul Basit (41) and Rohan Kunnumal (39) also played useful innings.
Chasing the target, all eyes were on the Tamil Nadu opening pair of N Jagadeesan and B Sai Sudarshan, who made the world record in the previous match. Sudarshan, however, became the victim of Vaisakh Chandran after scoring only five runs. However, when the team’s score was 43 for one wicket in seven overs, rain came and the match had to be cancelled. Jagdishan, who scored a world record 277 against Arunachal Pradesh in the last match, was currently playing 23 off 21 balls with the help of three fours.

Jagdishan and Sudarshan shared a 416-run partnership for the first wicket, setting a world record in List A on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu finished on top with 24 points after five wins in seven matches and two matches being inconclusive. Kerala secured the second position with 20 points. Kerala won four and its two matches remained inconclusive. The team had to face defeat in one match.
Andhra suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Chhattisgarh in their last match on Wednesday, dashing their hopes of making it to the next stage. The team scored 18 points. By topping the group, Tamil Nadu made it to the quarter-finals while Kerala will play in the pre-quarter-finals.
