Wasim Akram’s Biryani Connection
Just before the 1992 World Cup, Wasim Akram had ordered biryani from a Pakistani restaurant in Melbourne as he was being served sandwiches. The Sultan of Swing ate hot biryani in the dressing room and then bowled two unstoppable deliveries in the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground victory. Iftikhar Shah, who moved to Melbourne from Lahore in 1980, never imagined that the Pakistani team would eat at his hotel and see his country win in Australia. In that final, Wasim Akram took 3 wickets for 49 runs in his spell of 10 overs. Took important wickets like Ian Botham, Alan Lamb and Chris Lewis.
Brilliant spell from Sam Curran
Sam bowled the third best bowling in the history of T20 World Cup final. He took 3 wickets for just 12 runs. In World Cup finals, only Ajantha Mendis (4/12) and Sunil Narine (3/9) had better spells in the 2012 final. Sam, who troubled all teams in the slog overs (16-20), did not spare Pakistan either. Here too he took two wickets in the form of Masood and Nawaz for just seven runs in his two overs of slog overs. Sam took a total of 13 wickets in this World Cup, in which nine wickets were found in slog overs.
