Why did Sanath Jayasuriya invite Indians to visit Sri Lanka?

New Delhi: Sri Lankan veteran cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has appealed to Indians to travel to Sri Lanka in greater numbers, saying that it will help his country facing financial crisis. Sri Lankan tourism’s ‘brand ambassador’ Jayasuriya, while addressing an event organized by the Sri Lankan Consulate here on Wednesday, said that due to the large number of Indian nationals coming to Sri Lanka, it will get a higher amount of foreign revenue.

He said, ‘The last three-four months have been very difficult for us and during that time there was wide media coverage including India. But now I feel that Sri Lanka’s roadmap has been different after the changes. We want to go in a new direction.

Jayasuriya said, ‘I think it is time to help Sri Lanka especially in the field of tourism. As a small country, Sri Lanka is heavily dependent on tourism and has a lot to offer to tourists. We need support from India at this time. I sincerely hope that the people of India will give full support to Sri Lanka.
