Team India will do two tours after the T20 World Cup.
The first tour is to New Zealand and the second to Bangladesh.
For these tours 34 players are selected in the teams.
New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian team for the New Zealand and Bangladesh tours on Monday (October 31). Both these tours will be played after the conclusion of the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. India are scheduled to play three T20 Internationals and as many ODIs in New Zealand starting November 18, while Bangladesh’s tour will begin on December 4 with three ODIs. This will be followed by two Test matches, which are part of the current World Test Championship cycle. The reason behind not including some players in the team selected for both these tours has been disclosed by selector Chetan Sharma.
While some senior players have been rested for the New Zealand and Bangladesh tours, some new players have also got their first call ups. However, some questions are also being raised over two names – Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan – not being selected for any tour. After the announcement of the team, the chairman of the selection committee, Chetan Sharma addressed the media, in which he talked about some players who have not been included in the team.
Opener Prithvi Shaw has been in good form in the domestic circuit but he has not been in the scheme of things for the selectors and the team management over the years. With both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul resting for the New Zealand T20 International, fans were hoping to see Shaw back as an opener, but it did not happen. To this Chetan Sharma said, “We are basically watching the earth, we are constantly in touch with the earth, it is doing well. There is nothing wrong with them. The thing is that the players who are already playing and who are performing, they have got their chances.
Not only Prithvi Shaw, 3 more players are disappointed with not getting a place in the team, expressed their displeasure
He added, “They [पृथ्वी शॉ] Will definitely get a chance. The selectors are in constant touch with him, talking to him, he is doing well and he will get opportunities very soon.
At the same time, Sarfaraz Khan is also in sensational form in domestic cricket this season. This year he scored 1380 runs in 15 first-class innings with six centuries and an average of 106.15. It seemed that the right-handed batsman would now make his place in Team India, but he would have to wait longer for the India call-up. When asked what else needs to be done to pick the 25-year-old? Chetan Sharma said that it is only a matter of time before Sarfaraz gets a chance to come into the national colours.
Analysis: 2 tours, 4 series, 3 captains and 34 players, what is the purpose of BCCI?
He said, “We are giving him opportunities where we can. We picked him in the India A team. I am also talking to the selectors about him. Will get a chance very soon.”
Dinesh Karthik and Ashwin did not find a place in the team against New Zealand
Let us tell you that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had sought rest and KL Rahul has been given a break due to personal reasons. Dinesh Karthik played 27 T20 Internationals in 2022 till the match against South Africa, but was overlooked in three matches against New Zealand. Nor has it included Ashwin, who was called back in the T20I team after a gap of four years after Rohit Sharma insisted.
Chief selector Chetan Sharma said in a virtual press conference after the announcement of four teams for two different series, “The World Cup will be over in a few days so we had to decide who to rest and who is not. He (Karthik) has been doing well and he is available for us. But this time we have thought of trying different players after the World Cup.” But it can be understood that Indian cricket is ready to move on from Karthik. The World Cup in 2019 ended his 50-over career and 2022 may have been his last in T20 Internationals.
