WTC Final: Another ICC trophy will be sacrificed on IPL, when will BCCI understand?
Bowling a maximum of 4 overs and 120 legal balls in T20s has reduced the excitement of the 5-day Test. Matches that end in 3 hours like a Bollywood movie have not only reduced the excitement of Tests, but also the fitness of the players to fit into the T20 or ODI format. Indian players now play IPL continuously for a long period of 2 months every year. Its effect is now directly affecting the performance of Team India. Players become a part of this league to earn money and then sometimes get injured. International teams have to bear the brunt of this. The biggest example of this is KL Rahul and Kane Williamson who got injured in IPL 2023.
Apart from this, when everyone was aware that the final match of the World Test Championship is to be played between India and Australia from 7th June. So in spite of this BCCI conducted IPL for 2 months in which almost every player of current Indian team was a part. The effect of this was that the players of Team India did not get any time to recover from IPL and they had to practice again as soon as they came to London, due to which they could not stay fresh before the big match.
Another ICC trophy to be lost?
Team India looked very weak in front of Australia on the first day of the World Test Championship final. The main reason for this is coming to the fore that the players did not get time to practice properly for the finals nor did they get enough time to rest. Because of this, the team could not perform well on the first day and now coming back from here will be no less than a miracle.
Indian team has not won an ICC title in the last 10 years
Team India last won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Since then India has not been able to win a single ICC trophy. Many reasons account for this. But one of those regions can also be IPL. Because after 2013, the craze of IPL gradually increased. Competition increased in the tournament. Teams also increased. Due to this, the status of international cricket decreased somewhere. With this, players are not able to fully focus on international cricket due to IPL. However, BCCI should give some thought on this and ensure that IPL is not organized before any major event.
