Had to pay for Netflix plan of Rs 499 and got hit by 1.22 lakhs, this mistake was huge
The email was dated September 16 and appears to have been sent from Netflix’s official address. The person to whom this email was sent is engaged in Import of Plastic Printing Materials. Police said the man told them the email was identical to the company’s official email that Netflix regularly sends to its customers.
The email contained a link to pay for the Rs 499 plan. Without thinking twice, the person clicked on that link and filled in his credit card details. Then a One Time Password (OTP) was generated on his mobile phone for the payment of Rs 1.22 lakh.
The person ignored the amount for which he entered the OTP later and after OTP verification, his account was debited to the tune of Rs 1.22 lakh. The most surprising thing is that the person did not even realize that he had paid this much amount. He then received a call from the bank asking if he had made the payment.
