Why is Alto shutting down?

Actually, the biggest reason for the discontinuation of Alto is the implementation of Phase-2 of BS-6 emission norms. Under the new rules, vehicles will now comply with RDE i.e. Real Time Driving Emission Norms, so that the emissions of vehicles can be tracked in real time. Apart from this, under the new rules, such engines will be more fuel efficient and will also help in reducing CO2 emissions. Vehicles that do not meet the new rules will be turned off.

Maruti believes that the new rules will increase the cost of affordable vehicles and due to the increase in the price bracket, customers will no longer buy them. It is being told that the price of new cars can increase by 30-50 thousand rupees. Many companies have even increased the prices of cars made in the new slot. Along with Maruti, Hyundai, Honda, Nissan, Renault and Skoda have also announced the discontinuation of select models.
