R&D facility opened in India

Digital Desk, Bangalore. Rakuten India, the global product and innovation hub of Japanese company Rakuten Group, on Thursday announced the opening of its largest product, engineering and advanced research and development facility in Bengaluru, the largest outside Japan.

With a capacity of housing over 3,000 employees, the 20-storey complex with around 3 lakh square feet of space currently houses 2,000 employees.

Sunil Gopinath, CEO, Rakuten India told IANS that the new facility will enable the company to deep-tech innovation and R&D in areas such as e-commerce, fintech, content and entertainment as well as computer vision, speech and natural language processing (NLP). will increase its capacity.

Gopinath further told IANS, Rakuten is a very ambitious brand for young, talented engineers, scientists and researchers in India. From FinTech to Healthcare and Supply Chain/Logistics, we are constantly looking for new talent and encouraging them to join us and innovate to create global solutions from here.

Acknowledging that there is a shortage of talent for new age technologies, he said that India needs to expand the base of its talent pool.

Rakute SixthSense, the company’s first B2B software-as-a-service (SaaS) product, an all-in-one observability intelligence and software testing automation platform, entered the Indian market last year.

Yasufumi Hirai, Executive Vice President, Rakuten Group, said, “India is and has been the center of our growth strategy. Our new R&D center will build on the high value-added engagement that Rakuten is delivering on deep technology and product innovation from India.

Rakuten India enables global businesses in the e-commerce, fintech, advertising, mobile, content and entertainment sectors with deep expertise in data science and engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, cloud, security, distributed systems and more.
