Strict orders of CCPA to Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal, said- Do not sell these devices attached to seat belts, otherwise action will be taken

New Delhi. E-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart have been given a stern warning by the Consumer Protection Authority. This warning has been given regarding the sale of the device that turns off the seat belt alarm. This warning has been given to Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdee, Shopclues and Meesho. The CCPA, in its order, said that the seat belt alarm stopper clip stops the alarm in case of non-wearing of the seat belt, thereby compromising the safety of the passengers.
The CCPA has asked Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, ShopClues and Meesho to immediately and permanently remove ‘stopper clips’ and related accessories for car seat belt alarms from their e-commerce platforms. Following this order, five e-commerce companies have removed 13,118 car seat belt alarm stopper clips from their platforms. The regulator said in a statement that Amazon has removed 8,095 such clips, while Flipkart has removed around 5,000 clips.

Apart from banning their sale, the CCPA has also cracked down on those who manufacture them. The regulator has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries and District Magistrates of all the states and ordered that those making such equipment should be stopped immediately and appropriate action should be taken against them.
