After the order, the e-commerce platform removed the device to stop the seat belt alarm.
Orders were given to take action by sending letters to the District Magistrates and Chief Secretaries as well.
The CCPA called this device a threat to public safety.
New Delhi. E-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart have been given a stern warning by the Consumer Protection Authority. This warning has been given regarding the sale of the device that turns off the seat belt alarm. This warning has been given to Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdee, Shopclues and Meesho. The CCPA, in its order, said that the seat belt alarm stopper clip stops the alarm in case of non-wearing of the seat belt, thereby compromising the safety of the passengers.
The CCPA has asked Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, ShopClues and Meesho to immediately and permanently remove ‘stopper clips’ and related accessories for car seat belt alarms from their e-commerce platforms. Following this order, five e-commerce companies have removed 13,118 car seat belt alarm stopper clips from their platforms. The regulator said in a statement that Amazon has removed 8,095 such clips, while Flipkart has removed around 5,000 clips.
Apart from banning their sale, the CCPA has also cracked down on those who manufacture them. The regulator has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries and District Magistrates of all the states and ordered that those making such equipment should be stopped immediately and appropriate action should be taken against them.
What is seat belt alarm stopper clip
In fact, now seat belt alarm is given in all the vehicles coming in terms of safety. As per the rules, this alarm starts ringing as soon as the vehicle is started, so that the driver gets to know that he has not put on the seat belt. This alarm goes off as soon as the seat belt is put on. Some people use the seat belt alarm stopper clip to violate the rules. It fits into the holter of the seat belt so that the sensors of the car do not detect the seat belt not being used and the alarm does not sound.
Not wearing seat belt is a complete violation of traffic rules. An challan of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 can be deducted for driving without wearing a seat belt. Along with this, due to playing with the security, the traffic police also have the right to impound the vehicle.
