Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also got an opportunity to attack after India was accused of involvement in the assassination attempt of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in America. The Canadian PM said that now they (India) have started to understand that it is not going to continue like this. Canada’s Prime Minister on Wednesday said there may be an “attitudinal change” in India’s relations with Canada after an Indian was indicted in a plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil. Trudeau told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that he thinks they are beginning to understand that they can’t go on like this and that there is a kind of openness to cooperation now that they probably weren’t that open to before. .

Trudeau said the US indictment appears to indicate that the Indian government is willing to adopt a polite stance. He said there is an understanding that this problem probably will not go away simply by striking against Canada. He said, “We do not want to get into any conflict situation with India at this time. We want to work on this. We want to move forward on the Indo-Pacific strategy, but it is important for Canada to stand up for people’s rights, people’s security and the rule of law. And that’s what we’re going to do right here.”

Allegations repeated in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar

Relations between India and Canada had become extremely tense after Trudeau in September alleged the ‘possible’ involvement of an Indian agent in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia on June 18. India had declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020. India had rejected Trudeau’s allegations as “absurd”. Federal prosecutors in the US in November charged an Indian national with involvement in a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader. Last month, US federal prosecutors filed charges against Nikhil Gupta for abetting a conspiracy to kill a Sikh separatist. (Language)
