Washington: The United States on Wednesday mourned the death of senior industrialist Ratan Naval Tata and remembered him as the man who led India to greater prosperity and development. Former Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, 86, transformed a small conglomerate into one of India’s largest and most influential conglomerates. He died on Wednesday night at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai.

Cornell University said that Tata had graduated from here and he became the largest donor to this university internationally. “Ratan Tata leaves an extraordinary legacy in India, at Cornell, and around the world,” said Michael I. Kotlikoff, interim president of the university. “When Ratan Tata graduated from Cornell with a degree in architecture, it was impossible to imagine that his visionary leadership, philanthropy, and humanity would continue to grow,” said J. Meijin Yoon, dean of Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning. “This commitment to Cornell will have a global impact in advancing education and research in many fields.” Ratan Tata was a three-time Cornell Trustee from 2006 to 2022.
