Mary Milben’s Visit To India: African American singer and US Cultural Ambassador Mary Millben will travel to India on August 15 to attend and perform at the 75th Independence Day Celebration. The 40-year-old singer is known for her powerful performances in ‘Om Jai Jagdish Hare’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana’. Milben is the first American and African American artist to be invited to India by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). According to the announcement, she will be the special guest representing America. She will perform for an audience of 1.4 billion people.
Milben shared a video on Twitter, referring to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s first visit to India in 1959. She says, “The king said that in other countries I can go as a tourist, but in India I have come as a pilgrim. I am very excited to follow in his footsteps on my first pilgrimage to India.”

In the video, Milben thanks newly-elected Indian President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu and the Indian government.
Performing in India for the first time, Milben will tour the country with Priya Samant, co-founder and CEO of NFT global company Abris.io and a strategic advisor on US-India relations, and Indiaspora Global Forum to mark the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence and the 10th anniversary of Indiaspora.
