Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a big announcement amid the Russia-Ukraine war. This announcement by Putin has created panic in Ukraine, America and NATO countries. Actually, presidential elections are going to be held in Russia. If Putin is re-elected president, it will be the worst news for America and NATO countries, including Ukraine. Ukraine and Western countries do not want Putin to come back to power in Russia. But meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will also contest the next elections to be held in 2024 for the country’s top post. This announcement of Putin has given sleepless nights to Ukraine and European countries.

Russian government media gave this information. With this announcement, Putin has expressed his desire for another six-year term, in which his victory is considered certain. After nearly a quarter of a century in power and despite the costly Ukraine war, Putin still enjoys widespread support. Thousands of Russians have also been killed in the Ukraine war and this has led to repeated attacks inside Russia and one attack on the Kremlin. The short-lived rebellion by Yevgeny Prigozhin in June led to widespread speculation that Putin might lose his grip, but he managed to regain control of the situation.

The date of election for the post of President in Russia has been announced. According to the information, Russian MPs have fixed March 17, 2024 as the date for holding presidential elections in the country, paving the way for President Vladimir Putin to contest elections for the fifth time. These will be the first elections since a 2020 constitutional amendment imposed a two-term presidential limit, but not retroactively, thus allowing Putin to run in 2024 and even 2030.

Became President of Russia in 1999

Putin became the President of Russia for the first time in 1999. He took over this post after Boris Yeltsin. Putin has served as the country’s president longer than any other Russian ruler since Joseph Stalin. Before this, Leonid Brezhnev had been the President of Russia for 18 years, but Putin left him behind too. Putin turned 71 on October 7.

Putin has also been an intelligence officer

Vladimir Putin was born on 7 October 1952 in Leningrad, Soviet Union, to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Maria Ivanovna. He was the third child of his parents. His two elder brothers died of illness in childhood. This Putin went on to become a spy of the intelligence agency KGB and then the President of Russia. Putin has announced that he will decide whether he will run for a fifth term after the elections are formally called—although sources indicate that he will. His chosen successor at the end of his first presidential term (2000–08) was Dmitry Medvedev. (AP)
