Dhaka: The interim government of Bangladesh has given another big blow to the country’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government led by Mohammad Yunus on Thursday withdrew the special security given to Hasina and her close relatives. This has further increased Hasina’s troubles. Let us tell you that the interim government had also canceled her diplomatic passport a few days ago. A report in Bangladesh’s official news agency said that the Advisory Council led by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has decided to amend the Special Security Force Act 2021 to remove the special security given to former Prime Minister Hasina and her close relatives.

Hasina (76) came to India on August 5 after resigning from the post of Prime Minister, after which Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved the Parliament. Currently, Hasina has more than 75 cases registered against her in Bangladesh, in almost half of which she has been accused of murder. The Chief Advisor Office (CAO) said in a statement after the Advisory Council meeting, “After widespread demonstrations by students and the public, an interim government has been formed on August 8, 2024, which includes the Chief Advisor and other advisors.” The statement said that the Special Security Force Act 2021 was implemented after the decision of the previous government. After this, a gazette was issued on May 15, 2015 to provide special security and benefits to Hasina and her close relatives under this law.

Told the existing law is discriminatory

The statement issued by the CAO said, “This law was made to provide special state benefits to the members of only one family, which is clearly discriminatory.” It said that the interim government is firmly committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination. It said that due to the changed situation, it is not possible to implement the provisions related to the ‘family of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ under administrative management in accordance with the existing law.
