Before the elections to be held next year in Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has got a big relief from the High Court. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He was granted this bail on Friday in the government confidential document leak case. The court also granted bail to his close aide and former minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. According to the news of Dawn newspaper, the apex court also directed these leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to pay a surety bond of Rs 10 lakh each.

A three-judge bench led by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood issued the order on PTI’s petitions. Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah are the other two judges on the bench. The case is based on allegations that Khan, 71, and Qureshi, 67, mishandled diplomatic documents sent by the Pakistan Embassy in March last year and violated the country’s privacy laws. However, Khan will remain in jail as he has been convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. The federal investigation agency’s chargesheet alleges that Khan never returned this document.

Imran Khan will still remain in jail in other cases

Even though the Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted bail to Imran Khan in the confidential document leak case, he will still remain in jail in other cases. PTI has already said that in this document, there was a threat from America to remove Khan from the post of Prime Minister. Last week, the special court (Official Secrets Act) in Adiala jail started hearing the case afresh. Before that, Khan and Qureshi were indicted for the second time in this case on December 13. Qureshi is also in jail. Khan and Qureshi were first indicted on 23 October. Both of them had not confessed their crime.

Got a shock from the High Court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has now given a big relief to Imran. Whereas the High Court had rejected his petition. When the hearing was going on in Adiala jail and four witnesses had already given their testimony. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court termed the government’s notification regarding the jail hearing as ‘defective’ and quashed the entire proceedings. The Islamabad High Court had confirmed Khan’s indictment and rejected his request to dismiss the case. The high court had also directed the special court judge to ensure a ‘fair trial’. Khan was removed from power through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. After his removal from power, more than 150 cases were registered against him. (Language)
