Brazil’s President Bolsonaro on the path of Trump, thousands of supporters on the streets after the defeat, demanding power again from the army

Sao Paulo : The political crisis in Brazil is now taking a formidable form. Thousands of supporters of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have taken to the streets. These supporters are demanding the country’s military to intervene in the current crisis and keep Bolsonaro in power. Bolsonaro has lost his presidential election to leftist leader Lula da Silva, who is set to become the 39th president of Brazil. After the results came out, Bolsonaro refused to accept the defeat at the hands of Silva. However, later he agreed to transfer power.

Videos and photos being shared on social media showed huge crowds on the streets of Brazil protesting against Silva’s victory. The protesters want the military to intervene and keep Bolsonaro in power on the right. Bolsonaro made a short speech on Tuesday after the election results were out. In the speech, he neither congratulated Silva on the victory nor accepted his defeat.

Demand from the army to ‘take action’
However, his chief of staff, who then came to the podium, said that the President had “approved” the transfer of power to the new government. Since then, a large number of Bolsonaro supporters have gathered in front of military installations in major cities of Brazil, demanding that the army “take action”. According to the news, the performance of the supporters is increasing with time. Supporters are staging a sit-in for the third day in a row, demanding military action against Silva coming to power.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro, a fan of India and a devotee of Hanuman, lost the election, for the first time in 30 years.
Silva was sentenced in 2018
The election results were announced by the electoral authority on Sunday, with Lula da Silva getting 50.9 percent and Bolsonaro with 49.1 percent of the vote. It is the first time since democracy was restored in Brazil in 1985 that an incumbent president has failed to win re-election. Silva was the President of Brazil from 2003 to 2010. He was sentenced in 2018 in a corruption case, due to which he was sidelined in the elections that year. Due to this, the way was paved for the victory of the then candidate Bolsonaro.
