BRI not approved in PoK… Jaishankar reprimands China in front of Bilawal Bhutto, what will Pakistan do now?
India has protested
When Jaishankar was reprimanding China, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto was also present there. India has been opposing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) under CPEC as it passes through Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. India believes that both CPEC and BRE are against its sovereignty. Countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have extended their support to the BRI. But India holds a different opinion from these countries.
China has also offered to join India in front of it but every time it is rejected. In July this year, Pakistan and China encouraged some more countries to join the CPEC. India had reprimanded both the countries at that time also.
Projects passing through PoK
India has always been sensitive to the projects under CPEC. These are projects that pass through the areas of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). India asserts its right over these areas. CPEC was launched in the year 2013. Its purpose was to improve the road, road and energy infrastructure in Pakistan. All these infrastructures connect Pakistan’s Gwadar port with China’s Xinjiang province. CPEC is an ambitious project on which China is working very hard. India has always opposed it.
India told wrong
China is building a power project of 1124 MW under CPEC itself. This multi-billion dollar project is being prepared in the Jhelum river in PoK even after India’s opposition. China has also made preparations to build a mega dam in Gilgit-Baltistan under the same project. In the year 2020, such projects were declared illegal by India. The Indian government had said that it is wrong to build these projects in PoK and China will have to pull back this step.
