Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky removed Dmytro Kuleba from the post of Foreign Minister amid the ongoing war with Russia. Kuleba is the same leader who had taunted India for buying cheap oil from Russia. Now Andriy Sibiha has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister in place of Kuleba. The Ukrainian Parliament approved the appointment of a new Foreign Minister on Thursday. The new Foreign Minister Sibiha is being described as a career diplomat of Ukraine. He has also worked in Zelensky’s office for many years. He also has a good understanding of foreign policy and strategic partnerships.
What did President Zelensky say?
The appointment of a new foreign minister in Ukraine comes at a time when the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to infuse new life into his administration in view of the decisive phase of the war against Russia. Sibiha was serving as Deputy Foreign Minister since April. This is considered to be the biggest reshuffle in the Ukrainian government. On this change, Zelensky said that Ukraine needs new energy at this time. Other possible new faces include the heads of strategic industry, agriculture and justice. Parliament’s approval is necessary for the changes. Ukrainian MPs Yaroslav Zhelezniak and Oleksiy Honcharenko confirmed the division of votes.
Kuleba spewed venom against India
In August 2022, Dmytro Kuleba had spewed venom against India for buying cheap oil from Russia. He had said that every barrel of crude oil being transported from Russia to India is mixed with the blood of Ukrainian citizens. He had also said that Ukraine expects more practical support from India as it is fighting Russia. He also reminded of the government help in the return of Indian students stranded in Ukraine. However, later his tone softened and he also visited India. (AP)
