In another tweet, Jaishankar said, “As nations active in shaping global debates, discuss developments in our regions and exchange views on the Ukraine conflict and the Indo-Pacific. A polarized world needs a free-thinking and rational voice.” Jaishankar said India and Egypt’s cooperation in multilateral fora remains strong and next year in G20 and BRICS New Development Bank and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Egyptian participation welcomed.
75 years of relationship
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the famous Al Horeya Park in the Egyptian capital. Gandhi’s statue was unveiled in the park on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary in 2019. India and Egypt have had close cooperation in multilateral fora and both were founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement. The year 2022 has special significance as it marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Egypt. Currently, the Indian community in Egypt numbers about 3200, most of whom are concentrated in Cairo. There are also some Indians in Alexandria, Port Said and Ismailia.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Egyptian President Abdel Fateh El Sisi here on Sunday and received warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jaishankar, who is on his first visit to Egypt at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukri, also handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Modi.
