Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hit back on Sunday at growing US criticism of his leadership amid a devastating war with Hamas. He termed the call for fresh elections as completely unfair. In recent days, US Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer had appealed to Israel to hold fresh elections, saying that Israeli PM Netanyahu has lost his way. President Joe Biden supported Schumer’s speech.
Earlier, US President Biden had accused Netanyahu of harming Israel over the death of a large number of civilians in Gaza. Netanyahu told a news channel that Israel would never have appealed for fresh elections in America after the September 11, 2001 attacks. He called Schumer’s comments inappropriate.
People will decide about elections, elections cannot be imposed
He said that we are not an ordinary republic. The people of Israel will decide when their elections will be held and who they will elect, and this is not something that will be imposed on us. When asked by CNN whether he would commit to new elections after the war ends, Israeli PM Netanyahu said, ‘I think that is for the Israeli people to decide.’

On the other hand, Israel is continuously attacking Gaza. In the latest incident, Israel bombed Shifa Hospital. Behind this attack on Shifa Hospital, Israel has claimed that terrorists may be hiding in the hospital. A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, or IDF, said early Monday that this operation was carried out after a solid intelligence information.
