Flood devastation in Spain, 51 people dead and thousands homeless – Hindustan News Hub

Barcelona: Terrible rains and floods have wreaked havoc in Spain. At least 51 people have died due to this and thousands have become homeless. Hundreds of houses and shops have collapsed due to floods. Hundreds of cars and other vehicles have been washed away in water. Spanish authorities said Wednesday that flash floods across the country have killed 51 people, swept away several cars, inundated villages and blocked rail lines and highways. Due to this the traffic has been completely disrupted.

Emergency services in the eastern Valencia region have confirmed the death toll. Thousands of people have been shifted to safer places. Other people in trouble are also being taken to safer places. Torrential rain caused flooding in eastern and southern parts of Spain on Tuesday. A train carrying 300 people derailed near Málaga, railway authorities said. However, there have been no casualties. High-speed rail service between the city of Valencia and Madrid is disrupted.

Relief and rescue teams are working for the people trapped in the flood. Police and rescue services used helicopters to rescue people from homes and cars. More than 1,000 Spanish emergency response teams were deployed to flood-ravaged areas. Spain’s central government has set up a crisis committee to help with rescue efforts.
