Incidents of theft and vandalism in many Hindu temples in Canada, community concerns increased

According to government sources, during the last few months, five incidents of temple theft have been registered in Peel area of ​​Greater Toronto area. At the same time, an incident has been recorded in Hamilton. In all the incidents where the donation box was targeted, in some incidents the ornaments of the idols of deities were also stolen. It is said that this series of incidents in Hindu temples started from November 2021. The chain of events happened with the theft incident at Hindu Sabha Temple and Jagannath Temple in Brampton.

Incidents of theft increased further in January 2022 and incidents of theft have also taken place in Hindu Heritage Centre, Mississauga, Maa Chintpurni Temple, Gauri Shankar Temple, Hamilton Temple. The police is investigating on the complaint registered on these incidents. But so far these matters have not been resolved. However, the police have increased security and patrolling around Hindu temples. At present, incidents in temples are being seen as incidents of money theft rather than action taken against the Hindu community. But nonetheless, these incidents are certainly raising concerns.
