Ramallah: A total of 18 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in the West Bank and Gaza. Nine Palestinians were killed during a large-scale Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank. At least eight Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike near a school for displaced people in central Gaza. Palestinian security sources said on Wednesday that the operation targeted the West Bank cities of Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarm, as well as several camps, causing damage to local infrastructure.
Use of helicopters and drones
Bulldozers, helicopters and drones were used in the operation, with Israeli forces laying siege to the three towns of Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarm, Xinhua news agency reported. “Three young men were killed in an Israeli drone attack on a vehicle in southern Jenin,” the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a press statement. Meanwhile, Israeli forces clashed with locals in Jenin, killing two young men who were shot by army bullets. The deceased were Qassam Jabarin, 25, and Asim Dabaya, 39. Kamal Abu al-Rab, governor of Jenin in the Palestinian Authority, said Israeli forces threatened to storm hospitals and lay siege to medical institutions in the city.
In addition, the PRCS said four young men were killed in a bombing by Israeli drones on the Faraa refugee camp, south of Tubas. According to medical sources, the deceased have been identified as 13-year-old Morad, 17-year-old Mohammed Jaysa, 22-year-old Ibrahim Ghanimi, and 23-year-old Ahmed Nabrisi.
In Tulkarum, Palestinian security sources told Xinhua news agency that Israeli forces stormed the town and deployed army and sniper teams in the forests and fields surrounding the Nur Shams camp. On Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Israel Security Authority and the Israeli police issued a joint statement, saying that Israeli security forces carried out “counter-terrorism” operations in three towns, killing five “armed terrorists” in Jenin and Tulkarum, and four in the Fara refugee camp.
The biggest operation in the West Bank since 2002
Israeli media reports say the operation in the northern West Bank is the largest of its kind since 2002. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 660 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in the West Bank since the start of the conflict. Meanwhile, at least eight Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli airstrike near a school for displaced people in central Gaza.
Palestinian security sources told Xinhua news agency on Wednesday that an Israeli warplane fired a missile targeting the area around the al-Manfalouti school, east of the city of Deir al-Balah. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the Israeli army killed dozens of militants and destroyed hundreds of infrastructure in the Netzarim corridor. (Input-IANS)
