Warsaw: After nearly 4 decades The visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Poland has brought great news for thousands of Indians. Under this, PM Modi and Poland’s Prime Minister Tusk have prepared a blueprint of a five-year special plan to facilitate the movement of skilled Indian workers to Poland. Under this, India and Poland have decided to take their relations to the level of “strategic partnership” and to cooperate in trade, agriculture and defense and security.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk signed a social security agreement to promote the movement of skilled workers after wide-ranging talks. At the meeting, both sides expressed their resolve to significantly expand bilateral defence and security ties. Tusk also expressed Warsaw’s desire to become a key partner in New Delhi’s efforts to boost domestic defence production and modernise its armed forces. Modi arrived in the Polish capital on Wednesday. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in nearly half a century.
India-Poland draw a blueprint for a five-year plan
The Prime Minister also held talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda. Following the Modi-Tusk talks, the two sides unveiled a five-year “Action Plan” (2024-2028) for the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, identifying several areas for cooperation, including defence, trade, agri-tech, energy, green technology, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and mining. “This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. On this occasion, we have decided to transform our relations into a strategic partnership,” Modi said in his statement to the media in the presence of Tusk. “Today we have identified several initiatives to give a new direction to our relations,” he said. The “Action Plan” lists various priority areas to promote cooperation under various pillars, including political and security cooperation, trade and investment, transport and connectivity, climate, energy, mining, science and technology and EU-India relations.
Social security will bring a big change in the lives of workers
It particularly mentioned the early conclusion of the ongoing India-EU trade and investment dialogue, the operationalisation of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and supporting the implementation of the India-EU connectivity partnership. In his address, Modi said the social security agreement will promote the movement of workforce and ensure their welfare. The Prime Minister also thanked Poland for assisting in the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine after the conflict began in 2022. Tusk said Poland wants to enhance its defence cooperation with India. “We are ready to participate in the modernisation of military equipment.”
India-Poland issued this joint statement
The joint statement of India and Poland said that both sides acknowledged the need to strengthen and deepen cooperation in the defence sector. For this purpose, they agreed to make full use of existing bilateral mechanisms, including the Joint Working Group for Defence Cooperation. Modi said that both sides have identified several initiatives to give new direction to the relationship. He said, “Efforts will be made to involve the private sector to expand economic cooperation.” Modi said, “Poland is one of the world’s leading countries in food processing.
We want Polish companies to join the mega food parks being built in India. The Prime Minister said that rapid urbanization in India is opening up new opportunities for our cooperation in areas such as water treatment, solid waste management, urban infrastructure. He said, “Clean coal technology, green hydrogen, renewable energy and artificial intelligence are also our shared priorities. We invite Polish companies to join ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’. (Language)
