UK Political Crisis: In the election for the post of Prime Minister of Britain, Liz Truss defeated Rishi Sunak. However, she could not stay in her post for long. Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister of Britain 45 days later. Liz Truss resigned from her post on Thursday (October 20), making her term the shortest term for any British Prime Minister in history. After Liz Truss, now there are discussions about Rishi Sunak becoming the next Prime Minister.

Truss would be entitled to an annual payment of £115,000 sterling (approximately Rs 1,06,36,463) per year for life, despite having served as Prime Minister of the UK for only 45 days. According to The Independent, the money that the truss receives every year for the rest of its life will be paid from the taxpayer’s money.

When was this allowance started?

Outgoing Conservative leaders can claim money from the Public Duty Cost Allowance (PDCA). Which was brought in to help former prime ministers stay active in public life. As per the guidance of the government, these payments are made only to meet the actual cost of performing public duties. Such allowances were arranged after the resignation of Margaret Thatcher in 1990.

Since the scheme’s inception, several prime ministers have claimed millions of pounds, citing office and secretarial costs as a result of their special position in public life.
