Maldives News: Relations between Maldives and India have been tense due to President Mohammed Moizzu. Meanwhile, information has come to light that the ballot boxes for the parliamentary elections going to be held in Maldives can be kept in India. Apart from Maldives, the three countries which have elections to hold ballot boxes are India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

A total of 389 candidates are contesting for the 93 parliamentary seats of Maldives. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is contesting on 90 seats. MDP is considered pro-India. President Mohamed Muizzu’s People’s National Congress (PNC) has formed an alliance with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The alliance of both the parties has fielded candidates on 89 seats. This election is being considered a question of prestige for Mohammad Muizzu, who became President last year.

Election Commission of Maldives said this

The Election Commission of Maldives said on Sunday that about 11 thousand people of Maldives have requested for re-registration to shift the polling stations. The six-day period for people to shift their polling stations for the April 21 parliamentary elections ended on Saturday, according to an Election Commission notification.

Where will the ballot boxes of Maldives be kept in India?

According to the Election Commission of Maldives, the ballot boxes which are to be kept in India will be kept in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. They will also be kept in Colombo in Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Requests for re-registration to vote have come from at least 150 people in each of the three countries.

Moijju takes anti-India stance

It is noteworthy that India’s relations with Maldives are strained. On the request of Maldivian President Moizzoo, India has started withdrawing its troops from there. Moijju had promised to remove the Indian soldiers deployed for decades as soon as they arrived. Not only this, Moijju, who won the presidential election in Maldives by running the India Out campaign, chose China for his first official visit instead of India. He is considered a supporter of China. Although the opposition party is supportive of India.
