MV Saibaba, which was attacked in the Red Sea, was not an Indian flagged vessel. Indian officials have rejected the claim that there was a drone attack on an Indian-flagged ship in the Red Sea. Indian officials said that the oil tanker named ‘MV Saibaba’ which came under alleged drone attack in the southern Red Sea is not an Indian flagged vessel. This clarification from Indian officials on Sunday comes after the US Army’s Central Command described the oil tanker as an Indian-flagged vessel.
Officials said MV Saibaba is a Gabon-flagged vessel and has received certification from the ‘Indian Register of Ships’. Ships around the world can obtain registration certification in different countries. The US Central Command has said that an Indian-flagged oil tanker was one of two ships hit by drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the southern Red Sea. According to a statement issued by the command, at around 8 pm local time, the US Naval Forces Central Command received a report from two ships in the Southern Red Sea that they had been attacked.
Houthi rebels targeted
Houthi rebels are continuously carrying out drone attacks in the Red Sea. Till now he has carried out drone attacks on ships of countries like Israel, America and France. The Norwegian-flagged oil tanker M/V Blamenen has reported being targeted by Houthi rebel drones, with no injuries or damage reported, according to the statement. Accordingly, another oil tanker ‘M/V Saibaba’ owned by Indian flag and Gabon also reported drone attack on it. There is no report of anyone being injured in this attack either.
