Islamabad: A new President is to be elected in Pakistan today. But a day before this, candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai, supported by former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has demanded postponement of this election. However, no one has yet considered his demand. Achkai says that the electoral college is incomplete. Therefore the elections should be postponed. Let us tell you that this election is scheduled to be held today itself. Achakzai has been nominated with the support of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Party) (PTI).

Ackai is challenging Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan Peoples Party. Zardari is being supported by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led ruling coalition. Pashtunkha Milli Awami Party chief Achakzai has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) saying that there are some reserved seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies, which are vacant because no one has been elected on them. He said, “If the presidential election is conducted as per the schedule, it will deprive those people from voting.” This will be a violation of fundamental rights, law and constitution.

Achkai demanded not to hold presidential elections

It has been said in the letter that formation of the electoral college is not possible until the members of the reserved seats are elected. He demanded that the presidential elections should not be held or postponed until this process is completed. However, ECP has reserved all the reserved seats for various parties. Earlier, ECP had rejected the application to give its share in the reserved seat of Sunni Ittehad Council, because independent elected members supported by PTI had joined it. According to the ECP, the elections will be held from 10 am to 4 pm in the National and Provincial Assemblies. (Language)
