Washington: Indian-American citizen Nikki Haley, who is running for the US presidency, has got her first victory against Donald Trump. Till now Nikki Haley had been losing to Trump in many previous elections, but Haley has defeated Donald Trump in Vermont’s Republican primary election. He has surprised everyone by winning over Trump in a surprising manner. This is his second victory in the race for the White House in the year 2024.
According to American media reports, after 98 percent of the votes were counted, 52-year-old Haley got 49.9 percent and former President Trump got 45.8 percent. However, 77-year-old Trump managed to take a lead in the primary elections of other states, making him the frontrunner among the Republican contenders. The victory in Vermont is Haley’s second victory in the primary election. This is Haley’s first win in ‘Super Tuesday’. Haley’s campaign team said Tuesday that it is honored to announce her victory in the Vermont Republican presidential primary.

“Today we are honored to have the support of millions of Americans across the country, including in Vermont, where Nikki became the first Republican woman to win two presidential primaries,” Haley spokeswoman Olivia Perez Cuban said in a statement. Olivia said, “Unity is not achieved just by claiming that ‘we are united’.” To get the presidential nomination from the Republican Party, both candidates need 1215 delegates. Out of which Trump has 893 delegates and Haley has only 66 delegates. (AP)
