Pakistan: JIT formed to investigate attack on Imran Khan interrogated arrested suspect

Imran Khan Attacked Case: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed to investigate the assassination attempt on former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, has started questioning the only suspect. A senior Punjab official gave this information on Friday (November 18).

The Punjab Government has constituted this JIT. Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam have a coalition government in Punjab. Imran Khan was injured in a shootout at a rally in Punjab’s Wazirabad area, about 150 km from Lahore, on November 3.

The suspect was sent to 12 days custody

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Gujranwala on Thursday (November 17) sent Mohd Naveed, the ‘sole arrested suspect’ who opened fire on Khan, to JIT custody for 12 days. The official said that the JIT, headed by Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, is probing the case keeping all aspects in mind. He said that though the suspect claimed that he had carried out the attack alone, the JIT has widened the scope of its investigation, rejecting this.

Cheema called the attack well-planned

PTI leader and Home Minister of Punjab province Umar Sarfaraz Cheema has claimed that the officials were already aware that Imran would be attacked in Wazirabad. Cheema said that the threat to the life of Tehreek-e-Insaf party chief Imran Khan has increased and now full security is being provided to him. Cheema accused Pakistan Muslim League chief Nawaz Sharif of spreading religious hatred in the country. Cheema said that the attack on Imran Khan in Wazirabad was not due to religious fanaticism, but it was a planned attack on him.

High Court Chief Justice expressed the possibility of another attack

Earlier, on Friday (November 18), the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, citing the intelligence report, said that there is a possibility of another deadly attack on Imran Khan.
