In Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif has once again been elected as the Prime Minister of the country. He was elected PM after voting on Sunday. He got 201 votes in the National Assembly. After being elected Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif thanked his elder brother Nawaz and all his colleagues for reposing confidence in him and making him the leader of the House. However, Shehbaz Sharif’s tongue slipped at the very beginning of the speech. He declared himself the “leader of the opposition” instead of the Prime Minister.

Thanked his party members

Shehbaz Sharif said, “I want to heartily thank the members of my party who voted for me and elected me as the leader of the opposition in this House.” During the speech, Shahbaz said, “When my brother was elected Prime Minister thrice, the development that took place in the country is an example in itself. It is not wrong to say that Nawaz Sharif is the one who has made Pakistan stand. Secondly On the other hand, the sacrifices of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto can never be forgotten.”

Shahbaz got 201 votes, rival got 92 votes

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif in his speech mentioned the continuous bombing in Gaza, while also singing the praises of Kashmir. Along with this, Shahbaz also vowed to eliminate terrorism and its roots in the country. Shahbaz, the joint candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PML-N, got 201 votes in the 336-member House. At the same time, Omar Ayub Khan, leader of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Shahbaz’s rival, got 92 votes.

Shahbaz became PM after the fall of Imran’s government

Earlier, after the fall of Imran Khan’s government in 2022, Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister of the country. After the elections on February 8, Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N and Bilawal Bhutto’s PPP party formed an alliance to gain majority. This alliance had declared Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother and former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as the prime ministerial candidate. Shehbaz Sharif had filed his nomination for the post of Prime Minister on March 2. Even before the voting, the figures were in favor of PML-N and it was believed that the command of the country would once again come into the hands of Shehbaz Sharif.
