Pakistani Election Commission took strict action against former PM Imran Khan, party made allegations

Election Commission gave this reason

The Commission cited Khan’s conviction in the Toshakhana case as the reason for rejecting his nomination and the proposer and seconder of his nomination papers not being from the respective constituencies. The election official said Khan’s sentencing has been postponed by the Islamabad High Court, but the decision to disqualify him still stands. According to Pakistani media, “Among the objections raised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Mian Naseer was Khan’s five-year disqualification in the Toshakhana case, in which the electoral body had found him guilty of corrupt practices.” ”

Nomination papers rejected on these two seats

Imran Khan and his party’s senior aide and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi are facing multiple cases and arrests over the May 9 violence. Both Khan and Qureshi are imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. According to Pakistani media, the Election Commission has also rejected Qureshi’s nomination papers from two seats of Multan (NA-150 and PP-218) and Tharparkar seat (NA-214). The nomination papers of former federal minister and PTI leader Hammad Azhar have also been rejected from his seat (PP-172).

PTI accused the Election Commission

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) condemned this entire matter on Saturday. A PTI spokesperson said that “kidnapping of proposers and seconders is a new normal in this part of the world.” PTI’s current president Gauhar Khan wrote in a post on ‘X’ that “Today, the general elections (General The first step towards the (selection of nomination papers for the seat) is coming to an end.
